Williams ) August 13, 1909, San Angelo (Texas, USA) - April 5, 1975 Los Angeles (California, USA) American writer cool detective. Born in San Angelo, Texas, raised in New Mexico. After dropping out of school, Williams worked for ten years as a radio operator in the American Merchant Marine (from 1929 to 1939). During World War II and until 1950 he worked in the US Navy as an electronics inspector, radio communications operator, radar technician, and radio maintenance engineer, later as a technical expert in various radio companies. At this time he lived in Peru, Arizona, Florida, Switzerland. He married Lasca Foster in 1939.

In 1951 his first novel, Hill Girl, was published. Williams has written over 20 novels, as well as novels and short stories. Williams seems to have been familiar with the saying, "God made a country, man made a city, and the devil made a small city." His early detective stories, written in the 1950s and 1960s, are set in small towns along the Gulf Coast and South Florida, in a hot and humid climate full of mosquitoes and snakes. Later and more famous books use the experience and impressions of the sea service, for example. - novels "Dead Calm" and "Deep Blue Sea". More than in the United States, his books were extremely popular in France, where almost all of them were either translated or made into films, including by such world-famous filmmakers as Orson Welles and François Truffaut. His wife died in the early 1970s from cancer. In 1975, the writer committed suicide.  Detective. Declaration of love , IMDb - Charles Williams (III) , Charles Williams (US author) . "...
