When Abraham Lincoln was nine years old, his mother died from an ailment called the "milk sickness." Only later did he learn that his mother`s deadly affliction was actually the work of a local vampire, seeking to collect on Abe`s father`s unfortunate debts. When the truth became known to the young Abraham Lincoln, he wrote in his journal: henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion. I shall become learned in all things--a master of mind and body. And this mastery shall have but one purpose." While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for reuniting the North with the South and abolishing slavery from our country, no one has ever understood his valiant fight for what it really was. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years. Using the journal as his guide and writing in the grand biographical style of Doris Kearns Goodwin and David McCullough, Seth has reconstructed the true life story of our greatest president for the first time--all while revealing the hidden history behind the Civil War, and uncovering the massive role vampires played in the birth, growth, and near-death of our nation.

Bush administration. The idea for the next piece, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, was suggested to Graham-Smith by his editor at Quirk Books, Jason Rekulak. Using Jane Austen`s classic novel, Pride and Prejudice, as the basis for its zombie-related changes. Thus, changing the novel, which is in the public domain (see note for biography), and making one of the first literary mash-ups (see note for biography). Graham-Smith liked the idea very much, he began to re-read Austin`s novel and outline the places where zombie innovations would be added. He compared this process with microsurgery. Quirk Books was reluctant to publish the book, fearing backlash from Austin fans. The novel was published in 2009 with modest sales expected. In the weeks leading up to its release, however, the book`s notoriety increased significantly once the title of the novel hit the Internet. Gradually, the anticipation of the novelty became so strong that in the first days of sales, the novel hit the third line of the New York Times Best Seller list (the list of bestsellers published in the New York Times - editor`s note). Since then, the novel has sold over a million copies and has been translated into more than 20 languages. Remembering the success of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Graham-Smith writes another mash-up, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. As the title suggests, the book traces the stages of life of Abraham Lincoln, from birth to murder, and, based on the "secret diaries", reveals his central role in the worldwide struggle against vampirism. Sales began on March 2, 2010 and immediately brought the novel the 4th position on the New York Times Best Seller list in the "Hardcover Fiction" section. In addition to writing novels, Graham-Smith made his comic book debut, writing the story of Marvel Zombies Return: Hulk (artist Richard Elson). Cinema Both of the author`s bestsellers are being prepared for film adaptation. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was developed by Lionsgate Entertainment. Natalie Portman will produce and lead, while David O. Russell will adapt and direct the work. Graham-Smith will take part in the project as a producer. Busy with Graham-Smith and adaptation of the Lincoln novel. The book will be transferred to the film by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov. Television After graduating from Emerson College, Graham-Smith moved to Los Angeles, where he wrote and produced several television series, including Vendettas and History`s Mysteries for the History Channel. Based on his experience, Graham-Smith was hired by CBS to produce the groundbreaking online TV series Clark and Michael. While working on Clark and Michael, Graham-Smith met another producer on the series, David Katzenberg, who became his partner on Katzsmith Productions. Under the Katzsmith banner, Graham-Smith and Katzenberg wrote and scripted an MTV comedy titled The Hard Times of RJ Berger. Graham-Smith and Katzenberg are currently developing a number of television and film projects. © en.wikipedia.org Note to biography: Compiler`s notes: # public domain - in this case means the legal status of a literary work, in which the term of copyright for it is considered to have expired. # mash-up is a term used in music. In literature, it can mean the introduction of an original storyline into a previously written work (usually known and freely available). Blog: www.huffingtonpost.com/seth-grahamesmith © fantlab, VuDu
