Robert King is an American fantasy game maker and writer, author of more than twenty fictional works on the worlds of Dungeons & Dragons. J.

Robert King was born in Phoenix, Arizona. From his school years, he wanted to write fantasy (in his own words, influenced primarily by The Chronicle of Narnia.

King studied at Valparaiso University with a degree in theology and humanities.

For two years he worked as an editor for a publishing house that produced non-fiction, and then went to work for TSR, Inc.

In 1992, King wrote his first novel, Heart of Midnight, based on the Ravenloft setting; he later wrote several other novels on game worlds, including Carnival Carnival of Fear by Ravenloft, Vinas Solamnus by Dragonlance and Blood War Trilogy by Planescape, as well as several other books.

from the Plannscape trilogy was awarded the Origins Award for Best RPG Fiction in 1997.

King is also the author or co-author of such playbooks as Monstrous Compendium Forgotten Realms Appendix II (1991), Book of Crypts (1991, Ravenl oft), Unsung Heroes (1992) and Tales of the Lance (1992, Dragonlance), Aurora`s Whole Realms Catalog (1992, Forgotten Realms). Since the late 1990s, King devoted himself entirely to literary activity. His most recent (early 2011) book is Edge of Destiny from the Guild Wars 2 series. J.

Robert King is one of the founders of the Alliterates Club, which includes mostly former TSR employees. He is also an amateur actor playing in Shakespearean plays.
