A disturbing tale of our own world, and the strange creatures with whom we share it.It is well and truly said that there are more things under heaven and earth than there are almost anywhere else; true also that many of them lurk, unsuspected, far below the surface of the ocean. For thousands of years, mankind has trusted in the sea`s generosity while using it as a dumping ground, believing that in its vastness his garbage will be swallowed up and forgotten. But that was never really true. And now, when the earth`s hungry inhabitants demand more than even the ocean`s endless bounty can provide, strange things are being born in the oceanice depths - strange things that the sea throws back upon the land... The ultimate crustacean encounter.

Pierce Anthony , full name - Pierce Anthony Dillingham Jacob ( Piers Anthony Dillingham Jacob ) England, USA, 06.08.1934 Pierce Anthony was born in Oxford (England), in the family of Quakers Alfred Jacobs and Norma Sherlock. For the first five years, Anthony was raised by a nanny. He saw his own mother only at the age of five, after the family unexpectedly moved to Spain. The Francoists who came to power in 1940 sentenced his father to death. By hook or by crook, getting out of prison, the family runs across the ocean - to the USA. In 1956, Pierce completed his art courses at Goddard University (Playton, Vermont). And a year later, in 1957, he was drafted into the army, where in 1958 he received American citizenship. Demobilized in 1959, moves to Florida, the large state city of St. Petersburg. There he worked for some time as a draftsman for a company developing new communication systems, after which he entered the University of North Florida, which he successfully graduated in 1964 as a certified teacher. Oddly enough, but the death of a loved one forced Anthony to take up the pen ... the death of a loved one: "When I was sixteen, and the person closest to me, a cousin (she was then 15 years old), who would live and live, died, it seemed to me doubly unfair: rather, I had to leave ... After such upheavals, life will seem like a gift to anyone, from which they do not refuse.Add to this the inner desire to understand myself and to tell others - why did I still live? further fate was predetermined. I became a convinced vegetarian - also a kind of protest against death - and began to write, since childhood I was able to clearly express my thoughts. " The first publication is the story "The Possibility of Repentance", which was published in the magazine "Fantastic" in 1963. And in 1967, two wonderful events for a novice writer took place at once. Pyramid Books has partnered with the popular Fantasy & Science Fiction Magazine to launch a Science Fiction Novel competition, in which the grand prize of $ 5,000 went to Pierce Anthony for his novel Rope Sos. He wrote this book based on the story "The Seething World" - his thesis from Goddard University. In the same year, his first book was published - the science fiction novel "Chthon", which takes place on a prison planet, where natural cave-chambers remind the reader of all the circles of hell. In 1975, Anthony wrote a sequel - the novel "Fluoride". In the novel Macroscope, published in 1969, the science fiction writer expressed a whole range of paradoxical hypotheses in various fields of science (for example: the use of the planet Neptune as a giant starship). In "Triple Detente" (1968 - in Russian translation - "The Power of Aliens") the author dealt rather cruelly with earthlings. The alien invasion and the subsequent enslavement of the planet so reduced the number of people that the demographic problem facing it was quickly resolved. In the science fiction novel "The Dentist That Needs" (the fragment "None other than me ...", 1971 has been translated into Russian) Anthony acts as a bright satirist, narrating about the fun travels and incredible adventures of the space dentist. In the baggage of the science fiction writer there is also the novel "Pornoopia", which is a kind of hybrid of porn and fantasy; horror novel "Firefly", novelization of the famous SF film "Total Recall", playful novel "Dead Number", the hero of which becomes a participant in a real estate scam on Mars in the 21st century. He also wrote three science fiction novels for young people: "The Telepathic Worm", "Races Against Time", "Baluk". The story of the creation of the novel "Through the Ice" (1989) is very unusual. The book was written on the basis of an unfinished manuscript and "in collaboration with Robert Cornwise" - a ragically deceased teenager who, shortly before his death, sent Pierce Anthony his unfinished SF novel. But almost all of Anthony`s work is held under the sign of "giving the people serials - good and different." On his account there are no less than 13 of them - from dilogies to multivolume cycles. His most numerous (more than 20 books have already been published) and, as it turned out, the most popular cycle, Pierce Anthony began in 1977 with the book "Spell for a Chameleon". The novel and the entire cycle takes place in the magical country of Xant, where a lot of feats are performed, where tears and joy coexist with magic and magic, where dragons are not the most outlandish species of the local fauna. The popularity of the series has brought a talented, inventive description of the world of Xanth. Along with soft humor and lightness of style, the reader finds hidden verbal intricacies and puzzles in the novels. Another pentalogy, telling about fantastic oriental martial arts, appeared thanks to the correspondence between the writer and the fan Roberto Fuentes. "In 1970, I began to correspond with a fan whose name was Roberto Fuentes. Later we wrote a series of fantasy novels, the characters of which wear all kinds of belts, fight, etc. And then our communication gave two, at least, important results: Roberto I began to write, and I, at the age of forty, studied judo. The latter had a very positive effect on my creativity and my health. " I must say that in 1970, doctors discovered diabetes in the writer. P. Anthony currently lives and continues to compose in Inverness (Florida).
