John Sandford (English John Sandford - pseudonym, real name - John Kemp , John Roswell Camp ) Printed as John Camp ( John Camp ). American writer and reporter, winner of the Pulitzer Prize (the highest award for reporters in the United States) for 1986. Born February 23, 1944 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, attended public schools there, graduating from Washington High School in 1962. He continued his studies at the University of Iowa, graduated with a BA in American Studies in 1966, in the same year he married Susan Lee Jones, a fellow countrywoman and university fellow. He served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968, then worked as a reporter at Cape Girardeau for two years. In 1970 he returned to the University of Iowa and in 1971 received a master`s degree in journalism. He became a reporter for The Miami Herald from 1971 to 1987 and then a reporter for the St.

Paul Pioneer-Press from 1978 to 1990. In 1980 he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Essays on Indian Culture, and in 1986 he won the prize for his Life on the Land: an American farm family series on the farming crisis in the Midwest. At the same time, he published two popular science books, one about plastic surgery, the second about Indian culture. In 1989 he wrote two fiction books, each of which was continued in the form of a series of books. To publish thrillers with the protagonist Lucas Davenport at the initiative of the publisher, the pseudonym John Sandford (John Sandford) was chosen. These books are set in Minneapolis, and the title invariably includes "Prey" (Prey). The series became very popular, and the author began to publish all subsequent books as John Sandford. The protagonist of the "Prey" series is a crime fighter, in fact, a "lone wolf", who does not disdain methods that are questionable from the point of view of the law. Charming and attractive, Catholic by education, lover and connoisseur of poetry and computer technology, wealthy enough. In the first novels, Lucas Davenport is a detective lieutenant, then he is forced to resign. Later, Lucas is now deputy chief and head of the intelligence department, then an investigator for the Department of Public Security, and then becomes a US Marshal. On his account for the 27th novel of the series - 10 killed criminals, and he himself received several bullet and knife wounds and no longer sunbathes. Among his many informants and assistants, Davenport has a childhood friend, a nun. In the first books of the series, she not only compiles psychological profiles of wanted criminals, but also helps Lucas himself in overcoming depression and other anxiety conditions. If at the beginning of the series Lucas has numerous love affairs not only with colleagues, but also with suspects or victims, then in the last books he is married for the second time, settled down and quite caring father of 4 children (from different women). The writer said about his character in an interview: “I always thought of him as a kind of sociopath who is slightly insane. Of course, Davenport has changed a lot over time, he calmed down ...

I wanted to show that Davenport is capable of love, and he does not just collect women, as in the beginning.

" In 2007, Kemp begins the third episode with the main character Virgil Flowers, who was a minor character in some of the Prey books (as Davenport`s assistant), but in the new episode he conducts his own investigations. Many of Sandford`s books have become New York Times bestsellers. The writer is the main financial sponsor of an archaeological project in Beit She`an (in the Jordan Valley) in Israel with a website www.rehov.org. In addition to archeology, John`s hobbies include painting, photography, hunting and fishing; he enjoys skiing and canoeing. Lives in Santa Fe (New Mexico).  The Official Website , en.wikipedia .  Bibliography Series Kidd And LuEllen 1989 - 1.
