Amusing and absolutely appalling things happen on the way to the gallows when murder meets Lord Peter Wimsey and the delightful working-class sleuth Montague Egg. This sumptuous feast of criminal doings and undoings includes a vintage double identity and a horrid incident of feline assassination that will tease the minds of cat-lovers everywhere. Not to be missed are "The Incredible Elopement of Peter Wimsey" (with a lovely American woman-turned-zombie) and eight more puzzlers penned in inimitable style by the mistress of murder.

Dorothy Leigh Sayers (Sayers, Sawers - Dorothy Leigh Sayers ). English writer, philologist, playwright and translator. Lived: June 13, 1893 - December 17, 1957.

Born in Oxford into the family of the Reverend Henry Sayers (d.

1928), an Anglican priest, rector of the Cathedral Singing School at Christ Church. She received her primary education at the private school Godolphin, in Salisbury, (Wiltshire), then at Summerville College, Oxford. In 1915 she graduated from college with a bachelor`s degree in French, and in 1920 received her master`s degree, thus becoming one of the first women to receive a degree from Oxford. In the early 1920s, she published a two-volume collection of poems. From 1922 to 1931, Dorothy worked for the London advertising agency Benson. In 1923, the novel Whose Corpse? (Whose Body?) A series of detective stories about Lord Peter Wimsey`s investigations was started. He became the hero of 12 novels and two dozen short stories. Dorothy Sayers is one of the founders of the English Detective Club. Together with the members of the club, she participated in the creation of collective works "The Floating Admiral", "Double Death", etc. In the 1930s, Sayers wrote the non-serial detective The Documents in the Case, with Robert Eustace, a radio screenplay for the BBC. In addition to Lord Peter Wimsey, Dorothy created another image of an amateur detective - the wine salesman Montague Egg. He is the central character of 11 stories, six of which are included in the collection Hangman`s Holiday (1933), and five in the collection In the Teeth of the Evidence (1939). The collection "In the Teeth of the Evidence" turned out to be the last work of Dorothy Lee Sayers in the detective genre. In the 40s, she announced the termination of work on detective stories. Sayers began writing religious articles and dramas, lecturing on religious topics, and translating Dante`s Divine Comedy. Her latest work, Thrones, Dominations, was completed by Jill Paton Nash in 1998. Based on materials from sites - Detective story. Declaration of love , wiki .  Official website of the Sayer Society Bibliography Series Lord Peter Wimsey - Lord Peter Wimsey 1923 - 1.
