Felix Castor has reluctantly returned to exorcism after a successful case convinces him that he really can do some good with his abilities---"good," of course, being a relative term when dealing with the undead. His friend Rafi is still possessed, the succubus Ajulutsikael (Juliet to her friends) still technically has a contract on him, and he`s still dirt poor. Doing some consulting for the local cops helps pay the bills, but Castor needs a big private job to really fill the hole in his bank account. That`s what he needs. What he gets is a seemingly insignificant "missing ghost" case that inexorably drags him and his loved ones into the middle of a horrific plot to raise one of hell`s fiercest demons. When satanists, stolen spirits, sacrifice farms, and haunted churches all appear on the same police report, the name Felix Castor can`t be too far behind...

Mike Carey (MR Carey) is a renowned English comic book writer, writer and screenwriter. He was born in 1959 in Liverpool. Mike`s father was a military sailor during the war, and in the post-war period he was interrupted in low-paid jobs in shipyards and factories. Mike`s parents later worked at the local Taylors Bakery (seventy-two hours a week, eight days day shift, eight days night shift). Mike sometimes brought dinner to his father and saw him working at the stoves many times, it was dark and very hot. As Carey says, it was a real nightmare, and it was there that Mike "got the first idea of hellfire." Carey graduated from Oxford University and worked as a teacher for fifteen years. In the 1980s, Mike was a frequent contributor to the British fanzine Fantasy Advertiser, edited by Martin Skidmore. In the late 1980s, the company "Neptune Distribution", with which the magazine was associated, launched its own series of comics, and Carey, who had long dreamed of creating ...

In the late 1980s, the company "Neptune Distribution", with which the magazine was associated, launched its own series of comics, and Carey, who had long dreamed of creating comics, offered Skidmore two of his projects at once - a psychological horror film called "The Legions of Hell" and a grotesque stories about the superhero "Aquarius". Both projects were accepted, and Carey managed to write three scripts for each episode, and artist Ken Meyer Jr. (Ken Meyer Jr.) has already started drawing "Aquarius". But then Neptune went bankrupt and their projects collapsed. The first 17 pages of "Aquarius" a little later still managed to be printed in one of the British comic anthologies, but then the matter stalled. True, soon Mike was lucky again, Ken Meyer introduced him to Lurene Haines, who in the early 1990s practically became Carey`s unofficial agent. Thanks to her, Mike got several one-time jobs for various companies. So, for "Malibu`s Rock-It Comics" he worked on a biographical comic about Ozzy Osbourne and fantasy about the heavy metal band "Pantera" (Carey is sure that this is the worst of his work, but, fortunately, this comic is already very difficult to find) ... Then there were several short projects for Caliber, Inferno, Suicide Kings, Doctor Faustus. Carey participated in the 2000 AD projects, and here he created the Th1rt3en and Carver Hale series. Mike was then spotted and collaborated with other comic publishers, including Vertigo (a division of DC Comics), for which he created the famous comic "Lucifer" (nominated for the "Eisner Award"), worked on graphic novels “The Sandman Presents: The Furies” with artist John Bolton and “Hellblazer: All His Engines” with artist Leonardo Manco, and has also contributed to approximately thirty issues of the comic strip “Hellblazer”. Carey also took part in the work on the Batman: Gotham Knights, Faker, Neil Gaiman`s Neverwhere, Red Sonja, Secret Invasion, Spellbinders, The Stranded, Toxic!, Ultimate Elektra: Devil`s Due, Ultimate Vision, Vampirella Revelations, Wolverine: Firebreak, various offshoots of the X-Men series. By the way, one of the comics, "girly" "Confessions of a Blabbermouth", by artist Aaron Alexovich, Mike created in collaboration with his daughter Louise Carey. Carey is currently also collaborating with Marvel Comics on X-Men: Legacy and Ultimate Fantastic Four, as well as Wildstorm for his Wetworks: Worldstorm series. The interview with Mike was included in the second volume of the collection "Writers on Comics Scriptwriting" (2004), which brought together many famous figures in the comics industry under one cover. Carey`s debut novel My Familiar Ghost, released in Russia, is the first part of the Felix Castor cycle, which also includes the novels Vicious Circle (2006) and Dead Men`s Boots (2007). The sequels, "Thicker Than Water" and "The Naming of the Beasts", are due out in 2009. Carey also published the short story "Face" (2008), which was included in the anthology "Subterranean: Tales of Dark Fantasy" (2008; compiled by William Schafer), and the poem "In Thule With Jessica". In 2010, Italian director Andrea Vecchiato`s Frost Flowers (Cary calls it “an erotic ghost story”) is due out, a script for which Vecchiato co-wrote with Carey. In a sense, this is a long-term project, its filming should have started back in 2005, and now on the website of the film company “Hadaly Pictures” it is declared as “pre-production”. Carey also wrote the script for another movie "Red King" for Vecchiato (originally called "The Red King`s Dream"; rumored to be fantasy). On the site of the same film company it is written that it is in the "development" state. In addition, it was reported that Carey is working on the script for the television series The Stranded, a collaboration between Virgin Comics and the Sci-Fi Channel. Mike Carey currently lives in London with his wife Lin and children Davey, Ben and Louise. Official Site http://mikeandpeter.com/ Blog http://www.mikecarey.net/ © Grumble Reviews
