Barbara Joan Hambly ( Barbara Joan Hambly ) was born on August 28, 1951 in San Diego, California. She spent most of her childhood and adolescence in California, with the exception of a few internships in Australia and France. In 1975, she received a degree in Medieval History from Riverside University (University of California). After graduating from university, she began to look for a job that would allow her to study literature. She worked as a school teacher, proofreader, model, waitress, wine shop assistant, karate instructor. She also wrote scripts for cartoons and agreed to work as a screenwriter for fantasy comics. In 1982, her debut novel "A Time of Darkness" was published, which began the cycle "Darvet". The cycle was originally a trilogy, but two more novels were later written. In addition to fantasy, Hambly wrote historical and mystical novels, such as The Quirinal Hill Affair, participated in the novelization of the Star Trek and Star Wars series, and wrote cycles about dragons and vampires. The initial impetus for Hambly`s pursuit of literature was Frank Baum`s The Wizard of Oz, read in early childhood, but Tolkien`s The Lord of the Rings and many other books also had a significant impact on Hambly, and the traces of their influence are noticeable in Hambly`s work. From 1994-96, Barbara Hambly was President of Science Fiction Writers of America. She has received multiple Nebula and Locus nominations for her novel Those Who Hunt in the Night. Barbara Humbly has a black belt in karate, enjoys drawing, dancing, creating historical and fantasy costumes, fortune-telling on tarot cards, and at times - carpentry. In 1998, she married writer George Alec Effinger, who died in 2002. She now lives in Los Angeles with cats, lizards and, as she herself says, "two of the best Pekingese in the world." Barbara Hambly`s official website: http://www.barbarahambly.com/ (eng.)
