After the events of Cibola Burn, a thousand worlds have opened leading to the greatest land rush in human history and humanity is overconfident about colonisation. As a wave of colonists from Mars leave, the planet’s power structures become unsustainable leading to great change in the solar system and the formation of the private Free Army. While the Rocinante is being repaired its crew is split across different planets in different personal pursuits. Ships are disappearing without a trace. The sole remaining protomolecule sample is stolen from Tycho station. Coordinated system-wide terrorist attacks previously considered impossible bring the inner planets to their knees.
