A book by Guillermo Del Toro

Guillermo Del Toro was born on October 9, 1964 in Guadalajara (Mexico). Already at a young age, he became interested in cinema, studied the work of such masters as James Weil, Joj Romero, Alfred Hitchcock. Studied the future director and the art of make-up and special effects, at the same time mastered the profession of a screenwriter and shot short films. At the age of 21, Guillermo Del Toro served as the executive producer of Don Erlinda and Her Son (1986), but worked as a make-up specialist for almost ten years, starting his own company, Necrotopia, in the first half of the 1980s. At the same time, he wrote scripts and was a producer of a significant number of Mexican television programs. Guillermo Del Toro`s directorial debut, the "vampire" film Chronos, received a Critics` Award at the Cannes Film Festival and bears witness to the emergence of an outstanding new name in the world of cinematography. His next film, "Mutants" ("Mimic", 1997), was filmed in the United States and told about the invasion of New York by mutant beetles. This picture gave the director valuable experience of working with Hollywood studios, the requirements of which, however, somewhat disappointed him. So he returned to his native Mexico, and soon filmed in Spain the film "The Devil`s Ridge" (2001), produced by Pedro and Augustin Almodovara. Masterful work with the visual range, skillful creation of a tense atmosphere, intellectual complexity and excellent acting work - this is what the critics noted, praising the director. In 2002, Guillermo Del Toro directed the big-budget film Blade II in Hollywood, starring Wesley Snipes, based on a comic book. The director currently has several projects in the works, including with such prominent figures in Hollywood as James Cameron and Francis Ford Coppola. Strain Trilogy - Strain 1.
