She wrote more than 50 books: 8 plays (three of them went on Broadway), hundreds of stories, poems, but she gained the greatest fame for her detective stories. Already the first novel "Spiral Staircase" (1908) brought her fame. She was one of the first authors to bring humor to the genre. Rhinehart was a Registered Nurse, and many of her detectives, such as Miss Pinkerton (1932) or Episode of the Wandering Knife (1950), act as nurse Hilda Adams nicknamed Miss Pinkerton.
