A book by George Martin

George Raymond Richard Martin George R.R. Martin was born on September 20, 1948 in Bayonne, New Jersey. His father, Raymond Collins Martin, was a loader, his mother`s name was Margaret Brady Martin. George has 2 sisters Darleen Martin Lapinski and Janet Martin Patten. Martin attended Mary Jane Donohoe School and Marist High School. He started writing very early: Martin sold his stories about monsters to the neighbors` children. He later became a fan of comics. Collecting them in high school, he began to come up with stories for specialized fan magazines. The first professional sale took place in 1970, when Martin was 21 years old. "The Hero" was acquired by Galaxy, and published in the 1971 issue. From this year on, Martin`s work began to be published. George Martin graduated with honors in 1970 from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois (Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois). He has a Master`s degree in Journalism. In the 70s, Martin worked as a volunteer at VISTA, and at the same time was the director of chess (in 1973-1976 Martin headed the Continental Chess Association) and teacher (in 1976-1978 Martin was an instructor journalist at the College in Iowa (Clarke College, Dubuque, Iowa)). Also worth mentioning is that in 1972-1974 Martin served in alternative military service with the Cook County Legal Assistance Foundation. In 1975 Martin married Gale Burnick, but in 1979 they filed for divorce without becoming parents. In 1979 Martin completely devoted himself to literature. Martin later moved to Hollywood and co-edited CBS`s Twilight Zone in 1986.

A year later Martin served as Executive Consultant for CBS`s Beauty and the Beast.

he executive produced Doorways for Columbia Pictures.

Martin currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

He is a member of Science Fiction & Fantasy) of America, and he is also a member of the Writers Guild of America.

[Collapse collapsed title = Hobbies] From the collection of J.

Martin: I not only write about knights, but also collect them.

In particular, miniatures of medieval knights and just toy knights.

energetic American boys in my childhood I had Marx`s castle and a few plastic knights, I loved watching movies about Robin Hood, Sir Lancelot on TV, went to the movies on Prince Valiant. no matter how sad it is, I matured and toy knights and Marx`s castle followed the path of most toys ...

but in 1996, during the painful period of writing my fantasy epic, my old hobbies came to life and I began to buy miniatures again. I collect miniatures in 54mm scale, so called "toy soldiers", sometimes I switch to 70mm scale for nifty Elastolin plastics. These days 25mm "wargame" models are more common, but in my opinion they are too small ...

and I have not seen a model among them that can match the beautifully detailed 54mm scale. My collection is strictly medieval, but within this period my taste is eclectic. I collect plastic, pewter and composite figures; painted and not painted; new and old; from cheap plastic of the Marx castle to modern masterpieces coming out in Russia. From time to time I paint the figures myself. It`s quite interesting and helps to see that world, but my work will never be compared with the masterpieces of the masters of painting that I collect.  George R.
