Ernest Alfred Wallis Budge (Budge, Ernest Alfred Wallis) (1857-1934), English orientalist and archaeologist. Born in Cornwall on July 27, 1857, he graduated from Christ College, Cambridge University, where he studied Semitology. From 1885-1920 he was curator of the Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities Department of the British Museum. In 1920 he was knighted. Budge directed excavations in Mesopotamia (Nineveh and Der) and Africa (Aswan and Gebel Barkal - the ancient capital of Ethiopia). He died in London on November 23, 1934.

Among the translations made by the scholar, the Egyptian Book of the Dead (The Book of the Dead, 1899, revised edition 1909) and Coptic Homilies (1910), referring to the early stage of the history of the Christian church. His major works include The Literature of the Ancient Egyptians (1914), By Nile and Tigris (1920) and The Dwellers on the Nile (1926).
