A book by Jim Butcher

http://www.jim-butcher.com/ Jim Butcher was born on October 26, 1971 in Independence, Missouri. After graduation, he entered the University of Oklahoma, where he began to study to be an engineer, but in the end, after changing several specializations, he graduated with a bachelor`s degree in English literature. Even in his first year, Butcher tied the knot with his school friend Shannon (now they have a son, who is named James Joseph). The need to provide for himself and his family during his studies forced Butcher to change several jobs - from a yogurt salesman to a traveling salesman selling vacuum cleaners. Interest in science fiction Jim Butcher was instilled by his older sisters (he has two), who presented the student with the Tolkien trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" and the collection "The Adventures of Han Solo" from the "Star Wars" series. “I remember how frustrated I was that I couldn`t find the `perfect story` - well, you know what I`m talking about,” says Butcher. -...

And for the record: I still haven`t written my "perfect story" yet. But maybe she will be the next novel. Either the one after him, or the one that will be behind him, or ... "The first novel by Jim Butcher opened a series about the adventures of the detective wizard Harry Dresden, who investigates all kinds of magical troubles in the world of an alternative Chicago (the city, it should be noted, came out alternative not only because all sorts of supernatural events take place in it, but also because the writer himself has never been there and relied only on research in the library, and the stories of friends). The very concept of the series, according to Butcher, was born from a mixture of Laurel Hamilton`s early books about Anita Blake and the movie "Cast A Deadly Spell", something was taken from the television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", the works of John R.R. Tolkien and the famous detective writers Hammett and Chandler. At the same time, Jim Butcher calls his three favorite books: "The Dance of Reflections" by Lois Bujold, "Watchers" by Dean Kuntz and the "Stephanie Plum" series by Janet Evanovich. Publishing the novel turned out to be very difficult (the curious can find out the details on the official website of the writer) and by the time it was published, Butcher had two sequels ready. In total, he wrote nine novels in the series, enjoying significant success, primarily among fans of the work of Laurel Hamilton and Glen Cook (here we mean a series about the adventures of private detective Garrett). “Harry is pathologically incapable of ignoring people in trouble, and it looks like he was born to see if something bad has happened anywhere. At the end of the third book, he had already entered the dangerous waters and I do not see how he will be able to get away from not sinking into them over and over again deeper and deeper. My current plans include more closely involving Harry in the world of the supernatural, plus to stretch the threads into the past of his parents and the mysterious circumstances of their death, which will provide him with a million new enemies and several new allies, - says the writer. - If I could do exactly what I want, I would write about twenty books similar to those already published, and then end the series with a big trilogy ... And in that unlikely case, if someone offered me a lot of money for the sequel, I have ideas for a parallel series set in the same world. " Well, in order not to get too hung up on one series, Butcher decided to try his hand at traditional fantasy. In 2004 his new novel "Furies of Calderon" was released, which opens the cycle "Codex Alera". The new series was opened with the novel "The Aeronaut`s Windlass". The creator of the mega-popular series about Dresden decided to take a break from his adventures and released in 2015 the first novel in a new "steampunk" series. A world suspiciously similar to the one we know from Chris Wooding`s books about the Kitty J crew. A world where the entire land is full of fog and death, and humanity lives in high "ash" towers, which have been at war with each other for many years. The main character, the captain of the Predator merchant aircraft named Grimm, learns one day that the war should be stopped, because somewhere in the fog an ancient enemy of the human race has awakened ... Jim Butcher calls himself an enthusiast of such martial arts as Ryukyu Kempo, Tae Kwan Do, Gojo Shorei Ryu and Kung Fu - he has more than 15 years of experience studying them. In addition, Butcher is an excellent rider, enjoys fencing, singing and "bad sci-fi movies." Now the writer lives in Missouri with his wife, son and guard dog.
