William Golding Books

William Gerald Golding (eng.William Gerald Golding; September 19, 1911 – June 19, 1993) – English writer, winner of the 1983 Nobel Prize for Literature.  Biography Born September 19, 1911 in St. Columbus Minor (Cornwall). He was educated at Breiznoz College, Oxford University, where he devoted two years to natural sciences, after which he specialized in English language and literature. After graduating from university in 1935, he served in a London homeless shelter. In his free time he wrote, played in the theater. In 1939 he began teaching English and Philosophy at Bishop Wordsworth School in Salisbury. During World War II, Golding served in the British naval forces, and this experience, he admits, deprived him of illusions about the nature of man. The first of his novels was published “Lord of the Flies” (1954). In 1983 Golding was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, in 1988 he was knighted. Golding died at his home in Perranaruortola (England) on June 19, 1993. Creativity Golding`s novels are more parables than realistic pictures of life. His characters are torn out of everyday life and placed in circumstances where there are no convenient loopholes that exist in ordinary conditions. Lord of the Flies, for example, tells the story of a group of English schoolchildren abandoned on an island in the Pacific Ocean. First of all, they choose the government, but gradually the gloss of civilization disappears from them, and the children turn into cruel savages.  Works * Lord of the Flies (1954) * Heirs (The Inheritors, 1955) * Thief Martin (Pincher Martin, 1956) * Free Fall (Free Fall, 1959) * Spire (The Spire 1964) * The Pyramid (1967) * Darkness Visible (1979) * Credential Trilogy (Rites of Passage, 1980) * In the immediate vicinity (Close Quarters, 1987) * Fire Down Below, 1989 ). * Moving target (A Moving Target, 1982). * Dual language (1993).  Wikipedia .
